[ inaudible ] it was a frightening scene for drivers today as smoke filled the caldecott tunnel after a car burst into flames. the air was quickly cleared thanks to a ventilation system that blew the smoke out of the east side of the tunnel. cal trans was able to reverse the air flow. >> we needed to get the smoke blowing the opposite direction. >> reporter: the fans are part of a series of safety features

are cal tran workers and contractors. there is a silver nissan here in the bushes and on the ground ha body lays of a construction worker. there is a vehicle responsible for hitting the two construction workers. let's go to video we took earlier today at 2:40 this morning. the chp was called to this accident scene. two contractors for cal trans was moving a road work sign that alerts drivers when a silver nissan slammed into them. one of the construction workers died the other suffered minor injuries. the driver of the nissan was trapped and he had to be extricated. >> we are not sure if alcohol played a role in the occasion. he was coherent at the time but was transported with life threatening injuries. >> reporter: these construction workers were here on the right shoulder next to their work truck doing emergency repair work on a dip in the roadway just north of scott creek road exit. they were scheduled to be here until 6:00 a.m.. now all of that has changed because of this accident. there are contractors from the construction company that these workers who showed up here at the sce

at the cal palace is the first. the show becomes more controversial with yesterday's shooting at lax. we have the story. >> reporter: during the last year crossroads of the west gun shows attracted over 400,000 customers. crossroads of the west is billed as the biggest gun show in the country. this is state property and the state has no problem with the shows. let the decision making -- this spring, a state senator mark leno proposed a bill that would have required both san francisco and san mateo supervisors to approve gun shows at the cal palace. both went on record opposing the gun shows. if the bill became law, that would be banned here. the legislature passed the bill but governor brown vetoed it. the bill's owner said it was not good for the state. >> it would cost about $1 million to replace the revenue the gun show creates for the state. >> the show comes in the weak of the shooting in los angeles. a gunman fired a rifle killing a tsa agent and wounding several others. now again, the question of banning high-powered weapons. templeton the answer is not about guns. >> until we address
